How do I renew my postal redirection?

When you reach the 12-month redirection period, you have the option to renew your postal redirection, up to a maximum of 4 years.

Can I forward my mail for longer than a year?
Extended Mail Forwarding provides customers the ability to extend the forwarding of their mail in six-, twelve-, or eighteen-month increments, not to exceed a total of eighteen months of extended forwarding time. Extended Mail Forwarding is only available for permanent Change of Address.
You can't redirect your mail for free, but you can either pay to redirect your mail or update your address across all providers at the same time.
How does post redirection work?
If you're moving house, you'll want to make sure your mail goes too. Our mail Redirection Service will forward your post to your new address whether it's at home or abroad. Make sure to return your application, along with the payment, at least five days before you want the service to start.

Can you redirect mail for someone else?
You can't arrange a Redirection for people who don't live at the same address as you, unless there are special circumstances. We understand there are many things to organise when taking responsibility for someone's affairs.
Temporary redirection is used when you know you are going back to your original address. You keep your permanent address in our address register. Are you not going back, you should order permanent change of address. Note: Mail that is forwarded can take up to two business days extra.
Is it illegal to open someone else's mail NZ?
Yes. It is an offence under the Postal Services Act 1998 . People who wilfully open a postal article that is not addressed to them can face up to six months prison or a fine of up to $5,000.
Simply write 'return to sender' on the front of the envelope and post as normal. It will be returned to sender if there is a sender's address. If there is no sender's address then it will be sent to New Zealand Post's Returned Letters Office and will be dealt with in accordance with the Postal Services Act 1998.
