Why is Wanneroo called Wanneroo?
The name Wanneroo comes from two aboriginal words 'wonna' or 'wanna'; a stick used by Aboriginal women for digging roots and 'roo' that means 'the place of'. Wanneroo was still mainly bush in 1914 and the local Nyoongar people were still to be seen living their traditional life, especially around Lake Joondalup.
